Why we built this
Ick Reply started with a group chat. Someone would screenshot a creepy DM, everyone would brainstorm the perfect clapback, and by the time they had one — the moment had passed. We realized that millions of people have the same experience every day: an unwanted message arrives, you know you want to say something clever, but the perfect words don't come fast enough. So we built an AI that has those words ready in seconds. Not a generic chatbot — a purpose-built tool that understands the specific dynamics of unwanted messages, calibrates its response to exactly the intensity you want, and never crosses the line into threats or cruelty.
We spent months studying how people actually respond to unwanted DMs. The patterns were remarkably consistent: freeze, screenshot, share with friends, crowdsource a clapback, and either send it too late or never send it at all. The wit was always there in the group chat. What was missing was speed. By the time your friends had workshopped the perfect line, the conversation had moved on. The creep had either doubled down or moved to the next target.
We built Ick Reply to close that gap. The app captures the collective intelligence of every group chat that has ever roasted a bad DM and delivers it instantly. Eight response styles, five strength levels, a full cringe analysis, and three ready-to-send options — all in seconds. No one should have to feel speechless when a stranger decides to be terrible in their inbox.
Our principles
Every decision we make is filtered through these four commitments.
Empowerment, not harassment
Wit is the weapon. Ick Reply will never generate threats, body shaming, or slurs. Our AI is trained to be devastating without being cruel. The goal is to give you power over the conversation, not to escalate into abuse. Every clapback is designed to shut down bad behavior, not to become it.
Privacy by design
No accounts required. When you upload a screenshot, it is sent to our AI to extract the text and generate clapbacks. The image is not stored after processing. Your clapback history stays on your device and is deleted when you remove the app. Your privacy comes first — we collect only what's needed to run the service and never sell your data.
Safety first
When an incoming message describes threats, stalking behavior, or involves a minor, Ick Reply flags it with an inline safety warning alongside the generated replies. The warning is a signal, not a substitute for real help — for urgent situations, please contact your local authorities or a recognized crisis resource. The AI is also prompted to avoid generating threats, body shaming, or slurs.
Your rules
You control the strength, the style, and whether to send it at all. Ick Reply generates three options for every message, but the decision to use them is always yours. The app is a tool in your hands, not an automated response system. You set the intensity from Playful to Nuclear. You pick the voice. You decide what happens next.
